New Hunter S. Thompson Documentary

Dear Friends,
This is a VERY funny and poignant film director Blue Kraning made about Hunter S. Thompson. You can follow this link to where the trailer is posted up on Tribe:

http://people.tribe.net/ef16dbc2-...e40916ff6d

or you can follow the other links to his website www.gonzopatriots.com to see the trailer and buy the film.

I went ahead and copied the text from the tribe page below so you get a better idea of the work.

Please support the spirit of independence in which this film was made AND BUY THIS FILM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Much Love To All,
Lisa Ferguson (aka Petunia Maple Cake)

New Hunter S. Thompson Documentary
This is the trailer for the fun-loving but poignant film that is a tribute to Gonzo journalist, Hunter S. Thompson, and a document of how his legacy continues to live on in the hearts and minds of his fans. Blasted!!! follows the many "Gonzo Patriots" across America that volunteered their personally owned artillery to fulfill the good doctor's last wish to have his ashes fired from a cannon. Before Johnny Depp became involved with the ceremony, and paid over 2 million dollars for a professional fireworks company to blast his friend's ashes from a 200 foot tall 'Gonzo fist,' an essay contest was held by the Aspen Daily News (at the request of Hunter's family) to see who would be available to provide the service of firing his ashes. Over 50 private cannon owners applied and though these letters were published in Harper's magazine, these brave men and women, who had come forward to fulfill the dying wish of their hero...were eventually forgotten.

DVD's for this film can be purchased at www.gonzopatriots.com

Blue Kraning, Los Angeles based documentary director and Emmy Award winning writer, has just released the DVD of his film, Blasted, The Gonzo Patriots of Hunter S. Thompson, which recently premiered at the Starz Denver International Film Festival and the Rotterdam International Film Festival.

Three years in the making, this film is a tribute to a great journalist and renowned physician. Kraning says the film, “is intended for any fan of Hunter S. Thompson or just anyone who likes to see large stuffed animals blown to bits by a homemade Bowling Ball Cannon fired by a man in a purple polyester suit, or see transgender Civil War re-enactors blast their aptly named mountain howitzer...’Lucrecia,’ while reciting Hunter’s wisdom. I made this film entirely as a one-man-band, in the tradition of Gonzo individuality and artistic freedom, so I will be distributing the film entirely by myself by selling the film off my website at www.gonzopatriots.com”

"Hunter S. Thompson embodied the American ideals of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Blue Kraning's Blasted!!! is a twisted, anarchic, fun, and funny tribute to Hunter, those ideals, and Americans who don't merely mouth the Declaration of Independence, but live it." - Michael Simmons, The Huffington Post

“These are not the famous actors, politicians or even journalists. These are Hunter's readers who are “his people” in the purest sense, an army of thoughtful citizens who are inspired by Hunter's work and who do a fine job of carrying on his legacy.” –Anita Thompson, wife of the late author, Hunter S. Thompson

Here's a transcript of writer John Pilger's speech on media corruption. Among other things, he says that the "free" press of the West can be just as propagandistic as the state-run press of the former U.S.S.R.:

(Un)Fairness and (In)Accuracy in Reporting

According to my estimation, you can't trust FAIR (Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting) anymore than you can trust Fox News. Because like Fox News, FAIR focuses on the issues they support and ignore the issues they don't care about. For example, FAIR made a big protest about how the "news" media rarely mentioned the potential dangers of the nuclear-powered Cassini space probe. Yet at the same time, FAIR refused to mention how that same media rarely mentioned the Delta Clipper reusable rocket program -- a program that involved a NON-NUCLEAR, pollution-free spacecraft. I contacted FAIR about the Delta Clipper issue. But of course they completely ignored me. I have to conclude from this that FAIR is filled to brim with anti-nuclear reactionaries who hate advanced technology to death.

Yes, yes, yes! I know everybody is biased! And I also know that a lot of folks love to feign fairness and accuracy and don't care what a scam that is. But I still insist that these media-types be truthful in at least on regard: That they're not fair and balanced. Of course as things stand now, it looks like FAIR and Fox News will continue to share their desire to lie to the public about their "fairness" and "balance."

A news service that covers EVERYTHING!

I wish there was a news service that covers EVERYTHING. A news service that covers everything would cover as wide a variety of news as possible. They would cover the most popular news, they would cover the least popular news and they would cover the news between the two extremes. A news service like that would provide people with news they might not hear about otherwise. But if such a news service already exists, I haven’t heard of it. And it’s been my experience that even the so-called “alternative” news sources only focus their coverage on a narrow range of topics. Even if what they cover is different from the mainstream news, it’s still narrow news coverage. The closest news source that I know of that covers everything is C-SPAN. And though they don’t cover everything, at least they have the decency not to tell their viewers what to think. C-SPAN may rock, but I still wish a news service that covers EVERYTHING.

Why believe the hype?!?

I'm convinced that there is no requirement to believe everything you see in the news. Despite that, most people continue to believe everything they see in the news. Even after inaccuracies in reporting have been exposed, many people continue to believe everything they see in the news. For example, the now-disproved claim that crime was rampant in New Orleans during the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Instead of the public learning from that, they very likely will believe the next big inaccuracy in reporting.

If most of the public rejected the sensational malarkey of the corrupt news media, the corrupt news media very likely would present real news instead of sensationalism. But because most people will blindly believe every news report, the corrupt news media very likely will continue with their inaccuracies and exaggerations. In other words, I say its more the public's fault than the corrupt news media's fault that the media hype is so incessant. How about solving this problem, OK?

Gannet buys the Detroit Free Press?!?

I recently heard that the Detroit Free Press (or the Detroit Free Mess as I like to call it) was bought by Gannet, the same media giant that has owned The Detroit News (The Detroit Ooze) for at least 20 years. Now allow me to ask a few questions with obvious answers: Doesn't that further show how out-of-control media monoloplies are getting? I mean, why should the same company own two newspapers in the same market? Isn't that what some people would call competing with one's self? Are there any other obvious questions I forgot to ask regarding this situation?

Alternative press is not enough

They say that if you are dissatisfied with "news" from the mainstream press, you should go to the alternative press. For some, that sounds like good advice. For me it sounds pointless. I say this for two reasons: (1) The alternative press is just as biasED and disinterested in the truth as the mainstream press is. And (2) even if the alternative press is more truthful than the mainstream press, I am still going to have to live in a world where most people get their "news" from the mainstream press.

On the first point, I think a good example there was when FAIR (Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting or as I like to call them UNFairness and INAccuracy in Reporting) mentioned the mainstream press's disregard of the Cassini space probe's dangerous nuclear power core as one of the most censored stories of 1997. Yet at the same time, FAIR didn't mention a space-related story that was even more censored than Cassini's nuclear power core: The experimental reusable vertical-take-off-and landing rocket craft known as the Delta Clipper. Yes, people should have been allowed to know about the dangers of Cassini's nuclear power core. But don't the public have just as much right to know about the Delta Clipper -- a non-nuclear, pollution-free launch vehicle?

About the second point, knowing about alternative news won't exactly do you any good if you live in a world that primarily operates on a different set of principles. It's comparable to knowing that the Earth is round while the majority think the Earth is flat. I mean, how can you adaquately employ such alternative knowledge when the majority are likely to punish you for it despite the fact that you're right?

So what is the solution to the problem of mainstream and alternative news? I definitey don't have the solution to that problem. All I can say about it is that that's what we get for living in a world without consensus.

Though the "news" media tend to misuse their power, should they be held to blame for the misperceptions that people have about events in the world? I mean, no one is obligated to believe everything they see in the news, so why should people believe everything they see in the news? Hence, if an individual chooses to believe everything they see in the news, then the media can't really be held responsible for that. Or can they?
